1987, to celebrate the arrival of the Alfa 75 under the Milan name a year earlier on the US market, the Alfa 75 "America" was launched, available with two engines: "1.8 Turbo" (1779 cm³, 155 HP) and "3.0 V6" (2959 cm³, 185 - 188 HP). The two versions take the name "America" thanks to the adoption of the body made for the Milan, characterized by energy-absorbing bumper shields and the fuel tank in a protected position behind the backrest of the rear sofa, as well as having a greater capacity (70 liters against 49).
After the success of the previous 4-cylinder naturally aspirated versions and the more refined 6-cylinder version, Alfa Romeo decided to introduce a new 155 HP turbocharged version to the market, equipped with a 1779 cc twin cam. A particularity of this model consists in the fact that it is positioned above the intake manifolds, allowing easier positioning of short ducts, capable of giving an immediate response to acceleration commands, a typical detail for a turbocharged engine of a sporty nature.
